Alice Andrea Ewing is an artist and founder-sculptor working from her Suffolk based foundry and the craft-design studio Pomarius.
Ewings work explores notions of place, ecological value, presence and embodiment through an intimate relationship with materials and process. Working as a founder-sculptor, the artist undertakes the entire Renaissance Investment Casting process herself and considers this proximity to the medium to be an integral aspect of her practice. Her works intend to make the 'quick' 'long', translating her sketches and informal catographies into bronze through an adaption of the Lost Wax technique.
The resulting pieces are unique cast of produce/flora from gardens and locations around the UK, tranlating the organic specimens into solid bronze. The value imbued by this process and material is already evident to the caretakers and custodians of these sites.
